About the James N. Cleveland Award
James N. (Jim) Cleveland was a beloved member of the ALACHA Team and a respected leader in the banking industry. Jim's dedication and commitment to ALACHA will live on through the people he taught and inspired who carry on the mission of the organization today. Our legacy to him is the James N. (Jim) Cleveland Scholarship to The Payments Institute.

Jim began his service with ALACHA in 1984 when he became the Chairman of the ALACHA Operations Committee. Under Jim's direction, the Committee developed numerous educational opportunities for member financial institutions, many of which are still being offered today. In 1989, Jim was elected to the Board of Directors of ALACHA and served as a member of the Executive Committee. The following year he was elected by the ALACHA Board to serve on the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) Board.

As a NACHA Board member, Jim gained a national reputation as a leader in the payments system arena. He was asked to serve on several National committees and was one of the original members of the EDI Council. He was also Vice President and Manager of the Cash Control and ACH Department at AmSouth Bank.
