 2004 ACH Network TransactionsAttached is a summary of ACH volume for 2004. It is a bit different that the summaries normally provided on a quarterly basis. It shows total ACH volume, dollars, and average dollar amount per transaction, then provides the same categories of information broken out by commercial vs. Federal government. Finally, it shows the annual figure for the 5 e-check applications combined, and then the rest of ACH volume excluding the e-checks. All of the figures do not include estimates of on-us items. For 2004, there were 9,125,302,461 ACH Network payments, a gain of about 1.6 billion payments compared to 2003. The percentage increase was 21.16%. Looking only at commercial items, there were 8,173,633,871 ACH Network payments in 2004, a gain of more than 1.5 billion payments, and a 23.71% increase over 2003. The growth rate of commercial ACH payments is the highest since 1989. ARC accounted for 49% of all ACH growth in 2004, from 160 million in 2003 to 941 million in 2004. The 5 e-checks combined for more than 2 billion payments in 2004, a growth rate of over 112%.
